Doing work that feels like play…
We all know that success usually requires years of hard work and discipline. Working on the same craft, building skills, and becoming an expert with time.
Most people dread this process, it’s too tedious, difficult, it requires too much sacrifice. Others begrudgingly go along because they feel they must pick a skill.
Even when people don’t like what they do, often they’ll do it anyways because they feel they should. Someone becomes a doctor when they wanted to be a journalist.
Often people will put perceived success above their goals. Desires for validation over their own inner compass. Led into big life decisions by social pressures.
But what if you put your own purpose first? Not what your parents told you to be, or what society deems suitable. But your own true inner calling. What excites you?
What work absorbs your attention? What gets you into flow state? What can you not help but to be interested in? Something that feels purposeful and aligned.
Most of the greatest people in their fields are great because it’s what they love to do. It’s what they're meant to do, so naturally they excel because they’re interested.
There’s less “work life balance”, not because they’re workaholics, but their work is part of their lives. It helps them as much as they help others through their service.
So let’s learn what feels like play to us, what we’re naturally inclined to do. We all have certain talents and gifts within, these are usually aligned with our purpose.
When we are doing what we’re meant to be doing, using our natural strengths as well as working on meaningful things, we are aligned. We are present in life.
We all have a unique purpose, different sets of skills, combinations of abilities and unique gifts to share. When we are living in our purpose we can do our best work.
The more we are aligned into our gifts, the more directly we can help others. We have greater presence when we are where we’re meant to be. Not out of place.
If something feels out of place to you, a job feels wrong or doesn’t interest you. Keep looking, we all have a place we belong. Don’t waste time where you don’t.
Because when we’re aligned. The work feels like play. And when the work feels like play, you don’t work a day. It’s not always about toiling, but making a difference.
So my questions for you today are… What is your calling? What makes you feel alive? If you don’t know your purpose yet, Do you have any ideas of what to try?
