Feeling when to let go. Knowing when to trust.

Feeling when to let go. Knowing when to trust.

Sometimes in life, we do our part, we get up each day and move towards our goals, we try, we care, reach for our dreams, and sometimes it feels like nothing moves.

Maybe we have come a long way, but still have a long way to go, maybe we’ve been changing a lot for the better, but it's mostly inner work, not too visible externally.

Maybe this isn’t a harvest season, rather a planting one. When a seed is planted, it’s underground, growing in silence. No visible progress, but a slow struggle up.

In a planting season, where the progress is mostly hidden, internal in most cases, we are tempted to check our progress constantly to make sure we’re growing.

But could you imagine pulling the seed out of the ground every day to check its growth, how counter productive would that be? This is a lesson for us as well.

We must know when to let go. We do the work, we are persistent everyday. But when the work is done, we let go. We don’t obsessively check the progress.

We trust that the seeds we plant are growing, even if we can’t see the progress immediately. We know that we will reap what we sow, the fruits of our labour.

Trees grow in this way, before they can grow mighty and tall, they must have developed a strong root system, these roots are the key foundation of the tree.

We can’t see these roots, they’re deep underground, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t there. We also need to grow our roots, to have a foundation to grow on.

If a tree grows large and tall without a solid root system, it can easily be taken out by one big storm, whereas a smaller tree with strong roots will survive the event.

So if you feel unseen, forgotten, unknown, maybe this is a season to develop your patience, trust, compassion, persistence, character, grit, faith, humility, courage.

What if this is the time before harvest? When the fruits aren’t showing yet, because the roots are developing first. This in mind are you willing to let go a bit?

Not give up, not give in, not become lazy. Simply loosen the grip on the outcomes, trust that this season has a reason. Being deeply rooted. To withstand storms.

Sometimes the trick is to let go, stop swimming upstream, but go with the current of life, you’re on the way to your destination, but life has its own timeframe.

One day you’ll look back on this season and realize why it felt so long, so isolating. The lessons in this season will stay with you even when it’s time for the harvest.

Are you willing to trust this season despite the difficulties? When you let go of trying to control the timing, you free up energy to use towards growth.
