Learning to enjoy the ride.
Often we rush ahead. We don’t like where we currently are, it’s not far enough yet, so we put our head down and keep going, keep grinding. One day we’ll be ready.
We tell ourselves, “once I have this thing, then i’ll be satisfied”. Once I achieve this goal, i’ll feel good about my progress. Once I hit this milestone I can feel peaceful.
When do we take any time to appreciate the journey? If positive emotion is reliant on external outcomes, not internal enjoyment/satisfaction of the process.
When we learn to slow down for a moment, we can enjoy the whole journey to the best of our abilities. We can be present with our full focus, not rushing to the end.
The idea that we’ll be satisfied permanently by achieving some goal or milestone is unlikely. Satisfaction can only be found in the present moment here and now.
When we outsource our happiness to a future date when we hit some achievement, we take energy out of the process. We stop putting our full attention to the craft.
Goals are important, and it’s good to be ambitious, i’m only saying we don’t need to wait for success to feel grateful and whole. We should embody positivity always.
So many people don’t see themselves as good enough or worthy because they feel they lack the money, or success, or material possessions that would complete them.
Again it’s simply an illusion. Those things are not the source of happiness or satisfaction. We can feel whole and complete internally in the here and now.
Want fancy things and material success? That’s fine too, it’s the same principle. On our way to achieving our goals, we feel as though we already have completed them.
We don’t wait to feel ok, to breathe deeply and smile. To feel alive. We may not be exactly where we want to be yet, but we’re on the way. On a journey of becoming.
Because it was never about the destination. The joy, the purpose, the meaning, its found in the journey. In the ups and downs of the road and sea. The adventure.
So lets no wait to feel great. You’re worthy right now, before the goal is achieved, before the new promotion or new title. Before the success, fame and flashy items.
Because none of those things can ever make you more you. None of those things truly fulfill us. What will satisfy us is the experience of our exciting journey of life.
So since we’re going to enjoy the ride, not rush to the end and skip the best parts… whats one simple way you’re going to allow yourself to enjoy the process today?
