The Trap Of Comparison

Daily Drop

The trap of comparison.

How often do you compare yourself to others? How does it make you feel?Comparison can seem to be logical, to look at other people and evaluate.

To determine one’s status next to another. One’s level of success in life. This lens of viewing the world can be harmful, it’s a trap. Keeping up with the Joneses.

We are all unique, we are all different from each other. That’s a good thing. We’ve all had different experiences from different perspectives every moment.

No wonder there are wars, people fighting, we see through the lens of our biases. We all think our religion is true, our beliefs are accurate, and our ways are proper.

But so does everyone else, this is a reason there’s so much conflict in the world. We constantly compare, evaluate and judge, this is the energy of fear and scarcity.

Let’s try comparing ourselves with who we were the day before. We compete with ourselves to grow into a better version. We compare who we were to who we are.

Friendly competition is good too, it can uplift, and inspire motivation, as long as we aren’t comparing our success, value or self-worth to someone else’s story.

There will never be another you. Nobody has had the unique moments you’ve had so far or will have in the future. Your journey is yours, and your life is yours to live.

We live in a time of consumerism where many feel the need to compete with others, to show off, flex, to signal success and status, this benefits companies.

Big companies profit from people who feel insecure about themselves and their true identity. They convince people their product will make them feel worthy.

Once we stop comparing ourselves and judging others, freedom is near. We don’t show off to people who don’t care. We don’t need their validation or approval.

Comparison can be a trap to keep someone stuck feeling less than. Feeling bad about themselves, but we enter this world with nothing and leave the same way.

No matter how much success we achieve, we all face the same humble ending. It’s not about what we accumulate along the way, but how we choose to live each day.
