Releasing tension is life changing.
Most of us walk around highly tense, without even knowing it.
Tense jaw, tight forehead, clenched hands, tight back, tense neck etc.
Holding tension in our bodies, is like holding pressure inside, being in a state of resistance. This can affect the natural flow of our energy, but also it can slow our creative abilities, when our energy is all tied up in knots.
Like a garden hose, if it’s kinked the flow stops. When we can remove these blockages, we get our energy back.
So how do we release blockages? How do we get rid of stored tension?
Here’s a few methods i’ve learned. First off, breathe. Deeply and slowly. Allow the breath to be full and relaxed. This will loosen us up a bit. Next is to consciously release tension. We intuitively feel in our body, where we’re storing to tension, and we release. We intentionally find tension in our body and dissolve it.
Other excellent ways to relieve tension are, stretching, exercise, running, meditation, massage, retreats. Relaxation, spiritual practices, swimming, etc.
Next is mental tension, this may not be a physical pain, but it’s a mental pressure. The root is spiritual. Its resistance, it comes from storing painful memories, fighting thoughts, pushing things down, resisting experiences. Mental stress.
Ways to release mental tension, are very similar to releasing physical tension, many cross over. Try things like, long walks, time in nature, calming music, adequate sleep, sauna, making art, creative acts, and talking to others.
So there’s a few quick ways to get this heavy burden of tension lifted. There’s many things to try. Many ways to alleviate internal tension. The key is to stop storing so much, and then work on dispersing the tension we do inevitably store, from daily stresses of life.
So how will you get some tension out of you today?
