Managing our mental and physical energy.

We all have 24hrs in a day. If we’re lucky we wake up with energy. But mental and physical energy are finite sources of fuel that must be recharged managed well.

So how do we manage our energy efficiently? How do we ensure we use it wisely?

This may go in a different direction than expected. Let me guess you thought I would say, get 8hrs of sleep, eat clean and exercise, don’t drink too much etc.

Well these are true and important, but theres another major key to the equation.

Leakage. Mental stress, energy draining from disharmony and seeping away throughout the day, fight or flight hormones pumping through us in a safe place.

Our body can’t seem to distinguish mental fears from physical danger. That means we can be perfectly safe, but our body can think we’re being chased by a tiger.

This means dumping adrenaline and cortisol into our blood stream, this physically stresses our body and nervous system, and leaves us feeling drained and depleted.

We often give away our energy in lump sums to things that don’t even matter. We buy into online rage, world events and politics, fear from the media and zaps us.

So whats the solution? Well first of course we keep the basics covered and take care of ourselves as I mentioned at first, and second we stop letting our mind be controlled by external forces. We stop buying into the distractions, we let it go.

There will always be something to be enraged about or fearful or stressed. We react to things outside of our domaine of control and give up our peace for free.

The answer is to stop caring so much, stop wasting so much energy on things you’re not even willing to actually work to change, if you wont do something about it, for example news halfway across the world, why let it control your mind?

Im not saying bury your head in the sand, ignore reality and live in a bubble, no. Im saying budget your energy, choose wisely what it’s given to, because we only have so much time and energy in a day. Don’t sell it off for parts, it’s so valuable.

Budget the number of Fs you give, choose your battles wisely, because if we want to build something valuable to society and the world, we need our energy charged.

Whats one way you can better manage your energy today in your life?
