Frustration can create lasting change.
Im not saying this is the best way… But negative emotions like frustration and even disgust can create lasting change. When we get frustrated enough with our own mess, eventually we begin to clean it up.
It’s so easy to slip into complacency and comfort. It’s much more difficult to actually get out of the trap of being overly comfortable. Sometimes we need to get a little frustrated, fed up with the same cycles, patterns, habits and complacency.
We know we can be better, we know we can improve. So maybe a little frustration about the situation is appropriate and potentially helpful to create some desired changes. Another option is disgust. If you want to quit smoking or some junk food that makes you feel terrible… Try thinking about how disgusting it is to you.
Sometimes we need a spark to make change. Sometimes when we are too comfortable and complacent we need to shake things up a bit. Sometimes we need to get disgusted with old habits and frustrated with old ways of living.
If positive change, growth and self development were easy… Everyone would be doing it. So don’t beat yourself up. Look for that spark. Sometimes we just need to jolt ourselves out of the fog of complacency and decide to clear away the haze of the comfort zone. Of course change feels uncomfortable, it’s something new.
But something beautiful happens when we clear that fog. We can see with clarity again, both where we currently are and where we are headed. We have a better understanding of our situation and what it will take to get to where we want to go.
Change is possible always, as long as we’re alive. One little change each day adds up. One new good habit, removal of one bad one. Bit by bit, day by day it compounds into real results. But sometimes we need to get a bit frustrated with the same old, for that change to come, we need to choose more for ourselves.
We need to decide we want a better life, and then take action towards that decision. So we can design our lives. We’re not stuck where we were yesterday, and tomorrow doesn’t have to be the same as today. If we’re lucky enough to be breathing, we have the opportunity to make changes and improve our situation.
We just might have to get a little frustrated to snap us out of the hypnotized state of complacency and comfort. We might need to find that spark within us that gives us the motivating force needed to break through.
So what are you frustrated about? How will it help you to change? What are you done with?
