Daily Drop

The only thing to fear is fear itself.

How much time have we spent worrying so far in life? Late nights looking up at the ceiling, trying to figure everything out. Dwelling on the past and looking into the future.

It seems fear has a heavy presence in these days we live in. It’s almost in the air. Rates of depression and anxiety are quite high, maybe social media and global connection plays a part. Information overload, too much to process.

Not long ago in our history we lived in smaller groups and we only had our little group and area geographically to keep up with. Now it’s the whole world.

We don’t need to play that game. A good acronym for fear is “false evidence appearing real”. The information we’re constantly being bombarded with feels like a visceral threat when it likely has nothing to do with us.

The only thing to fear is allowing ourselves to live in fear. That ruins lives. It makes each day less enjoyable. All these fears are not ours to carry. We can drop them anytime we choose.

It’s also important to know whats concerning us, is it some global event that we have no control over but find stressful? Or is it something pressing in our lives that we’re ignoring? The distinction is important.

If we can’t control something we should always just let it go. But if we do have the power to do something about a situation, the stress or anxiety may be a signal to take action, and when it’s completed the stress will go away, naturally dissipating.

When there’s an anxiety or stress caused by not doing what needs to be done, it’s fixable, it’s actionable and even reasonable. But the chronic fear, the low grade hum of anxiety ever present in so many lives, the subtle discontentment under the surface, this is the fear that is only draining our energy.

If there is fear without an actionable step of something we can do to improve it, thats when we should inspect it, and work on releasing it. Anything that we can’t control, we should not allow ourselves to dwell on and give our energy to. Before we can fix the world, we need to fix ourselves and our internal state.

That means letting go of fear. Showing up as a more calm, grounded version of ourselves in daily life. Bringing stability and presence wherever we go instead of being polluted by fear. Because the only thing to really fear… Is fear it self.
