Repetition makes the master.
People don’t reach the level of mastery based on raw talent.
It takes repetition, and lots of it. We learn from the reps, we learn from the mistakes we tell ourselves not to repeat. We learn from the failures.
We may posses natural skills in our field of work, and that’s a great edge, but natural skill alone isn’t enough to become a master of a domaine.
We need the ability to repeat the same process over and over. Even when we feel like progress is coming too slowly. Even when we’re bored.
It’s like working out. We just need to show up each day. We won’t have all the results immediately. It won’t feel like an instant transformation. But we still show up each day.
When we work towards our goals everyday, whether we feel like it or not, we gain a massive lead over the competition.
This should come as a relief and call to action. We don’t need to be special, we don’t need any rare talents or abilitites. We just need to show up. Everyday.
When we put the reps in, we learn, we adapt, we gain skills and a real understanding of our craft. We don’t need to seek perfection or burn ourselves out. That would be counterproductive. Rest is also necessary.
The key is to make a plan, with rest included. And then follow it. We show up when we tell ourselves we will. We put the reps in. And we enjoy the growth that comes with this lifestyle.
