Responding To Negativity.

Daily Drop

Responding to people’s negative energy.

Its bad enough to fight with ones own negativity, what about when its being directed at you by others? Someone is having a bad day so they spew harsh words your way. Someone is unjustified in their anger towards you, has an emotional outburst on you over nothing. What can we do? Well I used to get my own ego involved.

Now I mostly try to let it pass right through. Detached. That toxic waste is not mine to carry, even if it’s spewed my way. I let go. I let go of the need to justify myself to someone’s rage. I don’t need to defend my ego, I don’t need to fight back, just walk. This isn’t about being passive or a pushover, this is not engaging.

We need boundaries and we can’t allow ourselves to be abused. This is about not carrying other people’s foul energy. Not our burden. So again, next time someone yells, or freaks out. Observe your inner state. Feel the pull to react, defend, “show them” and instead let it pass through. Try having compassion for them, an adult having a temper tantrum, sad.

If you can’t leave the situation, observe without engaging/involving yourself. The other person is usually trying to get a reaction from you, don’t allow it. The angry person is usually fishing to get you angry. Misery loves company. Don’t take the bait. The wise don’t argue, they know it’s usually pointless.

It’s not worth your peace of mind to give them a piece of your mind. Release it.

Much easier said than done, it’s a practice. Like riding a bike eventually we learn.
