Daily Drop

Working through painful emotions.

When we’re suffering, it can be hard to get anything done, it’s challenging to build a meaningful life while we’re just trying to get through the day without giving up.

Those negative thought loops weigh on the mind. The cycle of shame and guilt wears us down. These heavy emotions drain our energy, never letting us feel at peace.

Unfortunately many people cope with these difficulties through compulsive behaviours like drinking, drugs, binge eating, social media or any other escape available.

The problem with reaching for the quick fix is, it slows us down in the long run and we don’t learn to properly process our emotions. If we’re constantly just coping we’re not cleaning the mental mess, just adding to it.

So here are some ways i’ve learned to process the pain.

Don’t resist negative thoughts. Don’t fight them. We wont win. It’s a paradox, the harder we try to fight and push away negative thoughts the more they will come up.

Here’s an example… Don’t think of a yellow elephant. Really just make sure not to think of a purple basketball. See what I mean?

When we try not to think a thought we will think that thought.

Instead we should allow them to come up. What we resist will persist. What we push down will come back up. So instead we observe.

We are not the mind, we are not our thoughts, we are the observer who is aware of the chatter in the mind. We don’t need to identify with these thoughts. Simply observe the minds endless chatter. When disturbing thoughts come up. Don’t bury them, if you do they will grow.

Every time a painful thought comes up, we allow it to pass by like a cloud in the sky. Our thoughts are like the weather constantly shifting and changing. But our consciousness is like the sky.

The more we learn to process these uncomfortable emotions, the more peace and clarity we will develop. This process takes time and cannot be rushed, it’s simply a daily practice.

This is just a reminder the past is gone, the future doesn’t exist yet. All we have is this present moment. Each day can be a clean slate, so let’s move forward unburdened. And create the lives we want for ourselves and loved ones.

Let’s be of service to others, the more we think about ourselves, the more stressed we will be. But when we shift our attention to helping others we will feel more meaning.

Whats one way you will practice letting go today? Let’s clear our minds and build a better tomorrow.
