What if wanting something really badly is counterproductive?
Sounds like a paradox right? Allow me to explain…
Wanting by definition implies not having, or lacking, hence we say we “want”.
Many great spiritual teachings all around the world have taught being in a state of having before we actually have. Believe it’s yours before it materializes. Have faith.
So what do we do with this dilemma? Everyone wants things, at all times…
Im simply suggesting a reframe, swap want for desire. Desire implies an intention to have, achieve or create something, without the lack and neediness of wanting.
My preference is a detached desire, basically as an example, I desire some material item, say a piece of jewelry, I imagine myself receiving it, and I feel the gratitude.
I feel the positive emotions before I receive it, and then I let go. I set my intentions, feel the gratitude and the just let it go and move onto other things.
I find that to be far more helpful than the wanting state. Wanting feels like constantly thinking about the things you don’t have yet, thirsting for them.
Focusing on the lack of whatever it is you feel you want. This is not helpful, it’s far more effective to simply feel the desire, set an intention to receive it, and let go.
Im not implying all our desires will show up at our doorstep wrapped in a bow just from thinking, we have our part to play, we must play our role in this process.
We focus on what we can control, take the action we can take, and work towards the results we desire, fully present and excited, we should feel energized by this.
Wanting typically leaves us feeling empty and low, thats how we know it’s not the way to go. We can choose the state we operate from, we can and should change it.
So if you’ve been feeling in a state of lack or wanting, are you ready to switch to intention and desire? Let’s experiment and see the results for ourselves.
