Getting comfortable being uncomfortable…

Feel the discomfort, sit with it, don’t resist it. What you resist persists. What you push down comes back up. As much as we don’t want to, we need to feel to heal.

Negative emotions, dark intrusive thoughts, anxiety, worry, fear… These sensations are amplified when we refuse to acknowledge their presence, we squirm inside.

Being unable to face these feelings leads to unhealthy coping mechanisms, depression and overall feeling miserable. And the distractions just make it worse.

So here’s a practical way to break this loop: Acceptance. Non reaction to the drama of the mind. See through the lies, stop buying into the BS. Detach and observe.

Obviously this is easier said than done, thats why it’s a practice, a daily battle. But the choice is ours nonetheless. We choose to be free or oppressed by our thoughts.

Acceptance doesn’t mean accept the thoughts as truth, it means accept they’re there. Accept the experience of difficult emotions and feelings, let them pass.

We often cling to experiences, refusing to let go and move on. When we stay stuck on the past, good or bad, we miss the present moment. We’re not aware of the now.

All of life is one long present moment, although we categorize our lives into different stages because it’s helpful. We need to learn to be more aware of now.

When we live in our minds, fantasizing about the future or worrying about the past we aren’t living fully, we’re missing whats right in front of us in the moment.

In order to fix this dilemma we must get comfortable being uncomfortable. We must stop running away from whats hiding underneath the constant distractions.

When we can sit with ourselves, with awareness and acceptance, we can begin to heal. When we can have an uncomfortable feeling without distracting, we can feel.

When we learn to choose the present moment every time, more possibilities will open up to us, we will feel more alive, we will be more engaged with existence.

We can observe our thoughts without reacting, we will eventually stop getting so worked up over the mental gymnastics and constant drama our mind feeds us.

This takes practice but anyone can do it, we will improve with time and repetition. So… How can you get a little more comfortable being uncomfortable today?
