Being present with purpose…
When life feels difficult or sad, when it feels uncertain and fearful, theres a simple mindset shift we can deploy: Live in today. Even if it’s not easy, just be here today.
We often get ourselves so worked up in our imagination, we imagine failing so we refuse to start out of fear. We feel worried about something in the future or past.
We make ourselves miserable, with our own state of mind. We allow these thoughts to control us and wonder why we feel frustrated and exhausted.
When we’re present in the day, a lot of that weight falls away. We return to now, whenever we catch our minds not being aware of the present moment.
For worry to be effective we need to use our imagination and project fears onto some future scenario, or imagine a past scenario and wish it could be different.
Most of us are in psychological war with ourselves (possibly others too). All this tension and resistance build up and can even cause physical symptoms as well.
It’s reasonable and necessary to make plans, to consider the opportunity before us and how we plan to traverse our next steps, it’s smart to learn from the past too.
Its when we live with our minds distracted by the imagination of future or past that causes real problems, We aren’t fully present in day, leading to lost time.
When we can slow down, take a step back and just observe our minds, we will see how lost we’ve been, listening to the neurotic chatter of the mind, we can stop.
The thoughts, worries and fears will still be there. But we wont be so reactive. We experience the sensations but they wont pull us as hard anymore we just observe.
Thats being present with purpose. Thats the state to be in to provide our service. When we live in the present with gratitude, everything will begin to change.
When we live in the present moment, we begin to feel spiritually alive again, we can be re-energized and excited. Worrying drains a lot of energy, let’s get it back.
Are you ready to stop leaking your attention, imagination and focus? Are you willing to come back to the present moment? I know I am. It’s a daily practice.
