Overcoming the ego.

One of our biggest enemies can be our own ego.

The ego can make us feel puffed up, better than others. If we’ve achieved any level of success we can be deluded of our own greatness, thinking were better than we truly are.

The ego can make us feel like we don’t need any help, that we can de everything on our own. That we know exactly what we’re talking about and we don’t need to listen to any advice or criticism. We can get prideful. All too often pride comes before a fall.

This isn’t about not being confident, not standing up for ourselves or feeling worthy. Quite the opposite. Keeping the ego in check allows to be open to change, new ways of thinking and a curious student mentality, which is the best mindset for growth.

The ego will tell us we’re above reproach, above correction and above others. This leads to a whole list of problems.

The tale of Icarus reminds us not to fly too close to the sun, not to reach higher than what we’re ready for. Not to get too ahead of ourselves.

In order for us to be adaptable, to be resilient and observant takes humility. It means shutting up sometimes when we feel like giving our two cents, instead choosing to listen.

So let’s put our pride to the side and get curious. Let’s see where it takes us.
